Looks like popular online messaging service WhatsApp is currently experiencing issues in some regions around the world. We are seeing a large number of reports from users who say that WhatsApp is currently down or not working for them.
Some users say the media sharing feature of the Facebook-owned service is down:
The Down Detector service is also showing an outage of sorts for WhatsApp in some regions like India:

There is currently no official word on what’s going on, and how widespread is this outage. Rest assured, we will update the story as soon as we get to know anything newsworthy about this issue.

There are reports that WhatsApp support acknowledged the server glitch saying:

Going by reports on microblogging site Twitter, Whatsapp is down as of writing this.
Update 3 (March 19, 2021)
It appears the service is working again for some. It’s up again at least for us.
Update 4 (October 04, 2021)
WhatsApp, along with Facebook and Instagram, is again down for users. The services have been down for close to an hour at this point and fresh complaints have been popping up on Twitter every couple of seconds. Facebook confirmed that they’re aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

WhatsApp said on Twitter that they have restored their services.
Update 6 (October 06, 2021)
While addressing the widespread outage that occurred on October 4, Facebook now assures users that no malicious activities were behind this issue but a faulty configuration.
Update 7 (October 25, 2022)
12:56 pm (IST): Many users have taken to Twitter to report that WhatsApp is currently down or not working for them. Moreover, a spike in the number of reports on Downdetector also convey the same.
01:30 pm (IST): Meta has reportedly acknowledged the outage with WhatsApp and they are working to fix it as soon as possible.
Update 8 (October 26, 2022)
01:08 pm (IST): A Meta spokesperson has confirmed to The Verge that the recent outage with WhatsApp has now been resolved.
05:42 pm (IST): IT Ministry has reportedly asked Meta India to submit a report regarding the outage. Moreover, they are also tracking for any cyberattack on Meta.
