Android being an Open-source platform means virtually endless possibilities. Perhaps one of the more exciting aspects of Android is the aftermarket firmware ecosystem.
Over the years, the Custom ROM scene supported by countless developers in the community has ensured devices are supported well past their official support period. LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, Paranoid Android, Pixel Experience are just but a few of the aftermarket options.
Not too long after we saw LineageOS 17.1 going official with support for a bunch of new and aging devices, Paranoid Android, one of the more popular aftermarket firmware for Android has also released stable builds of Android 10.
To recall, back in October 2019, we saw Paranoid Android release the initial builds of Android 10 to a few devices. These included Redmi K20/Mi 9T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6 & 6T. Paranoid Android Quartz 1 brings a bunch of enhancements to supported devices. This build is based on Android 10 and this specific release comes with the April 2020 Android security patch level.

As we know, these Aftermarket firmwares are known for supporting a very limited number of devices, especially considering just how expansive the Android ecosystem is today. That said, Paranoid Android Quartz 1 is available for a handful of devices as a start. For the first batch this firmware is available for;

The Android aftermarket firmware/Custom ROM ecosystem is thriving with more custom ROMS today than ever before. However, one great hindrance to better support and stability of these aftermarket firmwares is OEMs. Some OEMs like Huawei don’t allow users to unlock their bootloaders so there’s really no way to develop custom ROMs for such.

We can only hope for better support for this bustling ecosystem by OEMs in the future. This could be by making kernel source code available to developers promptly.
