As of July 2019, the book review and recommendation website had more than 90 million registered users.
That said, many Goodreads users are now reporting that the website and app is down or not working at the moment.
Some initially thought it was a problem on their end and tried resetting their internet connection, clearing browser cache, deleting cookies, and even trying a new browser but nothing seems to help.
Many are expressing their frustration on social media platforms like Twitter. You can see in the image below the error some are getting when trying to use the service.
Unfortunately, there is no official word from Goodreads if the app and website is down or not other than the support page suggesting that users should reinstall the app.
We hope the developers soon find out the root cause of the problem. Rest assured, we will update this space as and when we come across more information so stay tuned.
Update 1 (June 7)
05:07 pm (IST): The recent outage with the Goodreads app and website seems to have been resolved as we haven’t come across any fresh user reports on Twitter.
Update 2 (Sept. 22, 2022)
11:55 am (IST): Fresh reports on Twitter and Downdetector now indicate that Goodreads is again down or not working for many.
Update 3 (Sept. 23, 2022)
12:45 pm (IST): According to reports on Downdetector, the recent outage with Goodreads has now been resolved.
Update 4 (Nov. 8, 2022)
10:50 am (IST): Reports on Twitter (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and Downdetector indicate that the Goodreads app and website are both down and not working.
Update 5 (Nov. 9, 2022)
05:30 pm (IST): A quick look on Downdetector reveals that Goodreads is back up and running.
Update 6 (Dec. 20, 2022)
08:53 am (IST): Goodreads users have taken to Twitter to report that the search function is not working as it shows a ‘temporarily unavailable’ error.
This prevents users from searching for any books. The developers are yet to acknowledge the issue publicly.
Update 7 (Dec. 30, 2022)
01:52 pm (IST): Some users have taken to Twitter to report that Goodreads is currently down or not working for them.
Users say that the search function is currently not working and they are getting ‘Unexpected error’.
Update 8 (Jan. 02, 2023)
12:35 pm (IST): The recent issue with Goodreads appears to have been resolved as we haven’t come across any fresh reports.
