New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on April 27, 2022) follows:
GOG, formerly known as Good Old Games, is a video game distribution platform owned by CD Projekt, the same company that brought us Cyberpunk 2077. It enables users to download and play DRM-free video games.
That said, the GOG Galaxy 2.0 enables players to unite games and friends spread across various platforms in one place. Apart from viewing all games in a single library, players can also see their game stats and also add backgrounds and covers.
It also features the ability to roll back games to a previous version if an update breaks them. While the platform is pretty stable, recent reports from GOG Galaxy users indicate that many are facing a ‘Failed to load game database’ error (1,2,3,4,5).
The problem seems to have surfaced after the GOG Galaxy 2.0.48.63 beta update. You can see in the image below what the error looks like for those affected.
While GOG is yet to officially acknowledge the issue, we came across some workarounds that might help fix the ‘Failed to load game database’ error message.
The first workaround includes deleting the ‘galaxy-2.0.db’ file. You can follow the steps below to see where the file is located.
Some users said reinstalling the application helped them get rid of the error, so you can try that as well.
We hope GOG developers soon release a patch that fixes the aforementioned issue. If and when they do, we will be updating this space so make sure you stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
Update 1 (April 28)
12:40 pm (IST): GOG support team has now confirmed that they have released a hotfix 2.0.49 that includes a fix for this issue.
However, some players are still reporting this issue even after updating to hotfix 2.0.49.
