Huawei grabbed headlines with the launch of the P20 Pro back in March 2018. The phone’s camera was the most talked about feature, more so its capabilities in low light conditions.
With the Huawei P20 Pro, there was no denying that the Chinese tech giant was leading the way in night photography at the time.
But of course, in a smartphone world that is this competitive, it was only a matter of time before someone else came up with something much better. And indeed, it only took a few months.
In October, Google unveiled the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. We all know how good Google is with software, and this is exactly what happened with its own version of camera night mode known as Night Sight.
As expected from a software wizard, Night Sight raised the bar higher, leaving little to no room for improvement. Still, this was not going to stop an enthusiast brand from trying its luck.
OnePlus 6T came with a dedicated night camera mode dubbed Nightscape and OnePlus continues to refine it with every new phone, but it seems OnePlus 8T users are not having the best of times using the feature.
Multiple OnePlus 8T users are experiencing a strange bug when using Nightscape camera mode. Apparently, the photos snapped in night mode appear pink/violet/purple, as seen below.
There is a lack of clarity on when exactly this issue started showing up or what triggered it. But from the look of things, it seems even OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users are also affected.
Granted, it can easily be associated with a recent OxygenOS 11 update given the trio is the only one that OnePlus has upgraded to Android 11, but this is just a hunch from this side of the table.
On the brighter side, a OnePlus staff member who has been keeping tabs on this issue has come out to acknowledge it, adding that developers are already looking into it.
Given cameras have great importance to many people, we expect that OnePlus devs will be swift in addressing this issue, and hopefully make the fix available in the next update.

10:10 am (IST): Users of the OnePlus 8T in India are receiving a new update, OxygenOS 11.0.6.7 that among other things, promises to optimize the image quality in nightscape.
Update 1 (December 30)
11:12 am (IST): According to some OnePlus 8T users (1, 2, 3, 4), the pinkish tint issue while using the Nightscape mode still persists even after the 11.0.7.9 update. A Community Expert has claimed that the information been sent to the camera department. However, users are suggested to share the bug report.
