On Friday morning, the film’s producers unveiled the first glimpse at Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vani Kapoor, and will be released in theatres on July 22.
A minute-long teaser starring the three actors will be published on YouTube and social media, according to the creators.
“On July 22nd, a legend will be born! In Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, @yrf’s much-anticipated big-budget epic #Shamshera, starring superstar #RanbirKapoor @Vaaniofficial @duttsanjay, will be released in theatres near you.”
In this nearly monochromatic teaser, the three actors sat in the middle of a darkly lit space surrounded by armament. “This storey is of the one who declared enslavement of anyone is not good, not of outsiders, nor of people close to us,” Sanjay Dutt adds in Hindi. “This is the narrative of the one who won a dream of freedom in his father’s inheritance,” Vaani Kapoor continues.
Ranbir Kapoor enters and adds, “Nobody, on the other hand, grants you freedom. You have to come out on top. Shamshera, karam se dakait, dharam se azaad (in name a dacoit, in fact a free man)!”
While there has been no official confirmation of the plot, previous sources have claimed that the film is a novel take on India’s dacoits prior to independence, which the teaser looks to confirm.
Ranbir will play both the titular figure and his son in the historical action drama directed by Karan Malhotra. In addition to Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, and Ronit Roy, the film features Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, and Ronit Roy.
Ranbir was photographed on the sets of his film with a khadi vest and white dhoti or pyjamas, with a scarf around his neck, in leaked photographs from the shoot in October of last year. He sported a big beard and showed off his biceps as he stood among a group of locals dressed identically in the shot.
