Filmmaker Charlie Russell’s Netflix documentary Running With The Devil : The Wild World Of John McAfee is seen doing wonders, right from the day it dropped on OTT. The new documentary speaks a lot and raises many questions on the audience’s part related to McAfee and the uncanny story that revolves around his life.
In case you know little about the man John McAfee, he devised McAfee computer security software in the 1980s and fled from Belizean authorities in 2012 after his next-door neighbour was shot and killed. He even invited two journalists on the run to accompany him and managed to fly to Guatemala before pretending to have a heart attack and returning to America.
Next, John was wanted in the United States for tax evasion, which is why he went AWOL again in 2020. That is when Russell started talking to him about a possible documentary. In the documentary, there are clips and footage where the previous journalists are seen attempting to capture McAfee on film and interview the characters who managed to get close to him before he died.
This new Netflix documentary, by the Bafta-winning director Charlie, indicates that in reality, the man—John McAfee himself—was the virus. Yes, the man himself is a virus, which is something everyone was shocked to hear. The film has received more than the expected number of views. Users are loving and perplexed at watching this mind-boggling documentary.
Talking of the reality, John did fake his death, which was later on revealed by his Belizean ex-girlfriend, Samantha Herrera. She quoted, “I don’t know if I should say, about two weeks ago, after his death, I got an alarm from Texas. ‘It’s me John I paid off humans to pretend that I am dead, about I am not dead”. This statement has created a controversy amidst the eager-beavers and led to bringing more views to the Netflix originals.
