Original story (published on July 09, 2021) follows:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 was launched back in 2019, along with its Pro variant, and continues to be a pretty compelling buy even today (that is, if you manage to get your hands on available stock).

The phone introduced the now-staple glass sandwich design to the Redmi Note series along with starting a high pixel density camera trend at that price point which has continued to this day. New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

The camera tech in question is the 48-megapixels Samsung GM1 sensor that is capable of capturing some really stunning shots.

On the software end, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 booted into Android Pie out of the box. It has since then been updated to Android 10-based MIUI 12.

Unfortunately, the device was released at a time when Xiaomi’s affordable devices, like the Redmi Note series, were still receiving only a single Android version upgrade.

If the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro had been released a year later, it would have received two Android updates, just like the succeeding Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Still, MIUI is known for its independence from Android updates and offers the latest features regardless of the Android version it is based on.

And this is exactly why the MIUI 12.5 update that is now rolling out for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 in China, still manages to bring along plenty of new stuff even after still being based on Android 10.

While an official changelog hasn’t been made available at the moment, we have pulled the list of typical MIUI 12.5 changes from other devices and given it below.

The update makes the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 the fourth device to bag Android 10-based MIUI 12.5 after the likes of Mi Max 3, and of course, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, indicating that Xiaomi has now commenced MIUI 12.5 rollouts for older budget devices.
