The upcoming film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ starring Alia Bhat, is all set to be released on February 25. Alia will be playing the role of Gangubai in the film- directed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bansali–. However, the film appears to be surrounded by dissension before the release.
According to a report, Gangubai’s family has opposed the film and also filed a lawsuit against the movie. According to the family, Gangubai was turned into prostitution by the social worker in the movie. Gangubai’s son Baburaoji Shah says, that his mother was made a prostitute in the film and people are talking about him in different ways. These things are bothering our family in a lot of ways.
Meanwhile, her granddaughter Bharti said that “the makers of the film have de-framed my family in the acquisitiveness of money. The makers have not even taken the consent of the family to make the film, nor did anyone come to us for the details.” She also asked the question, “My maternal grandmother lived in Kamathipura, so does that mean that every woman living there become a prostitute?”
According to the Gangubai lawyer whole family of Gangubai is in shock after the release of the trailer. He explained that “The problem with our legal system is that instead of dealing with the misrepresentation, you are being asked to give proof that the is, in fact, Gangubai’s son. Despite the fact that we have proven it in court, there is currently no hearing scheduled in this case.”
“The family has been in hiding since then. They are relocating to Andheri or Borivali. Many relatives have expressed concern over the representation, making the family if Gangubai was truly a prostitute and not a social worker. The family’s mental health is deteriorating,” he continued. He also stated that the family had sent legal notices to the director Sanjay Lella Bhansali and writer Hussain Zaidi, However, nobody has responded yet.
