So, currently the Prime Video app for Android only offers access to content already purchased or rented. If users want to buy or rent new content, they will have to do it through other channels.

I have always been able to rent/ purchase shows and movies on my phone, and now all of sudden i get a message saying I can only purchase on the website not the app. Why? Source

It is not yet clear what is the reason for the loss of these functions in the Prime Video Android app. We will update this story once new details emerge on the matter.
Update 1 (May 16)
06:53 pm (IST): The disappearance of the rent, buy, and subscribe options is due to a new Google Play Store policy that imposes a 15-30% fee on the payments made through the Google payment platform.

05:50 pm (IST): Users can go through the official instructions to buy or rent Prime Video titles. You can check them out below.
