Not only is Pharrell giving back by holding a massive music event in our nation’s capital, but he’s also connecting the kids who attend to school there… or at least the grads.
To commemorate the feat of graduating from high school, the rapper/producer announced Friday that all graduating seniors in the D.C. public school system will receive free tickets to his massive music event, Something in the Water.
Not only that, but Pharrell says he’s influenced by the fact that they got through the last couple of years despite COVID constraints and still crossed the finish line.
To mark the feat, he says he’ll give each graduating student one free general admission pass to SITW next weekend, which will take place directly in town. To redeem the reward, Pharrell instructs the seniors to check with their school teachers/leaders.
It’s unknown how many tickets this will wind up costing. Only public school graduates are affected, according to Pharrell, and there are just over 2,000 seniors enrolled this year, according to their website. There’s no news on how many people will be graduating.
However, it appears that the scope of the giveaway is greater, as the Mayor added that charter schools are included. It’s most likely in the tens of thousands of dollars.
In terms of how much this costs, 3-day passes are $350 each, thus Pharrell appears to be spending at least $700k on this. Mr. Williams made a great move.
