Johnny Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, seeking $50 million in damages, with the actress countersuing for double that amount. Since April 11, 2022, the full trial has been televised. Amber Heard believes her loss in the Johnny Depp defamation case is a “significant setback” for women who speak out, and that she has lost her right to free speech as a result.
She later resorted to social media to express her disappointment with the decision calling it “heartbreaking”.
This is what her tweet reads:
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” she said in a statement. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband. ” I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women,” she said. “It is a setback. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

Depp, who has been in England for a few days, was not present in court for the verdict in the high-profile case involving lurid charges and counterclaims of domestic abuse between the Hollywood stars.
