The combination of the Google Assistant with Smart Home devices (such as Nest speakers) offers many possibilities. However, there are some things about it that not all users like.

One of those things that has been producing many complaints is the voice feedback after executing a command requested by the user on Google Assistant.

The issue with Google Assistant voice feedback

One of the possibilities of the Google Assistant is to be able to control all your compatible Smart Home devices through voice commands. For example, you can ask a Smart Speaker questions (like ‘What time is it?’).

However, there is something that many users do not like, and it is receiving voice feedback after having said a voice command.

This means that, in certain commands, the user will receive voice feedback warning if the ordered task could be completed. This can be very annoying if you want to keep things quiet.

Other commands, such as using smart plugs Google assistant wants to talk back to me ‘OK TURNING OFF FANS’

I do stuff in the AM when family are asleep and it’s annoying as fuck that Google wants to declare ‘OK I AM TURNING OFF THE FANS’ when it should just be a little ding, no? Source

Community has been asking to allow us to turn off the voice feedback for years. I’m wondering if that has been implemented yet or if there is any workaround.

A workaround to stop Google Assistant voice feedback on Nest speakers

As you can see in the reports, there are users who request the option to stop the voice feedback of the Google Assistant. Although this is not possible, there is a workaround that can help your Smart Home devices run quietly:

Basically, the workaround is to create custom routines. This type of routine allows you to establish a set of actions that will be activated with a previously established keyword or phrase.

This feature also allows you to configure the voice reply (feedback) of the assistant. So if you put a blank apace in the voice response setting, the routine will run silently.

At the moment, it is not known if Google Assistant will ever allow to completely disable voice feedback. However, if you prefer a silent operation of all your Smart Home devices, now you have the solution.
