Marvel fans who have been eagerly waiting for a Scarlet Witch solo film will be relieved to learn that Wanda Maximoff will be receiving a new solo ongoing series. Scarlet Witch, based on her resurrection and redemption in X-Men: Trial of Magneto, will be released in January 2023 by writer Steve Orlando.
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) is a fictitious character who appears in Marvel Comics’ American comic books. Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby conceived of the character. Her first appearance was in the Silver Age of Comic Books in The X-Men 4. Originally said to be able to change probability, the Scarlet Witch has been portrayed as a powerful witch since the 1980s, and on occasion has become powerful enough to change reality by tapping into greater energy sources. The Scarlet Witch has been named one of Marvel’s most notable female heroes and one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe since her debut.
In a press release, Orlando stated, “The Scarlet Witch has been with me since I first entered the House of Ideas—in fact, she was the star of my first Marvel work, Darkhold, kicking ass, weaving spells, and humbling Doom! So I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work on Scarlet Witch .”
“Wanda Maximoff has finally emerged from the shadows she has been battling for years. And now what? Sara Pichelli, Russell Dauterman, and I are revealing the next chapter of her extraordinary, unlikely, and magical life. When you’ve exhausted all other options, you turn to the Scarlet Witch. And may God have mercy on anyone who gets in her way”, he added.
“You’ve been waiting so long for Scarlet Witch’s solo return!” Pichelli mentioned. “Finally, that moment has arrived, and I am truly honored that my artwork was chosen to make this happen. I can’t wait to see what you think of the book.”
Scarlet Witch, with cover art by Russell Dauterman, will be released on January 4, 2023.
